Energy Education Goes Interactive
Marshalltown, Iowa - When members of Consumers Energy visit the companies’ headquarters, they will not only be greeted with a friendly smile one would expect from a rural co-operative, but also with some very cutting-edge technology. Consumers Energy has taken advantage of a several alternative energy sources, such as wind turbines and geothermal heating and cooling. To educate their members about these alternative sources, they have installed a GreenTouchscreen® from Quality Attributes Software.
The Consumers Energy GreenTouchscreen®, showcased in the lobby of the company headquarters, provides real time and historical electricity data to show how much power is being generated by two on-site wind turbines. For those who aren’t quite sure how wind can power a light bulb and dirt can heat their homes, the GreenTouchscreen® team has designed animations to depict exactly how these systems work.
Other innovative features on the GreenTouchscreen® are interactive savings analysis tools. This kiosk will calculate how much members could save each year simply by switching to a geothermal heating and cooling system. Another tool calculates the energy savings from switching all your incandescent light bulbs to long lasting, energy efficient compact florescent bulbs.
“The introduction of Consumers Energy GreenTouchscreen® is a milestone in providing web-based interactive access to energy issues and information for our members and community. We believe that our GreenTouchscreen® will be a valuable resource for teachers and schools who need access to information about energy use in our rapidly changing world” said David Stineman, Energy Solutions Manager at Consumers Energy.
